CM1 and CM2 classes under a simple contract with the State
Consolidating the fundamental learning
The Academy welcomes boys from CM1.
There the student receives a structured and solid formation, guided by a musician-teacher trained both in the classical methods that have proved themselves and in the cognitive sciences and the pedagogy of attention.
Thus we place the emphasis on:
- The study of the French language with logical analysis and the classical study of grammar. Special attention is given to spelling.
- Mathematics: mental arithmetic practised daily holds an important place, as does the practice of reasoning and of geometry.
- The transmission of our cultural heritage and the work of memory: chronological history, poems, literary texts…
- Openness to the world: geography, sciences…
- English, lived in class and practised in musical works sung in English.
Latin from CM1
To accompany the musical project of the Academy, and given the many liturgical works written in Latin, the students learn this language from CM1.
Thus they stimulate their reflective capacities: understanding the grammatical working of Latin trains one in methodical and rigorous work, and strengthens the teaching of French by helping one to understand the etymology of French words.
The learning of this language also instils logical reasoning and develops the liveliness of the student’s mind.
Sport and games to balance the day
Regular sport and daily times of play give rhythm and balance to the students’ day.
They contribute to concentration in class, to cohesion among classmates and to the boys’ physical development.
This physical breathing-space is essential to sustain the intensity of a demanding musical schooling.
