Academic life

A formation of excellence

Respect the common core of knowledge, and go well beyond it.

The Académie Musicale de Liesse respects the common core of knowledge, which defines in detail the content of the knowledge and learning to be acquired by the students.

It prepares its students for the state examinations, the Diplôme National du Brevet and the Baccalauréat Général.

That freedom lets teachers go well beyond the syllabus, choose their own materials and methods, and so give a genuine academic education.

01 Adapted timetable

Combining studies and music

In order to make possible a balanced schooling of quality and a complete artistic project, we choose a methodology of excellence, which allows us to do more and better in less time:

  • Small classes — some fifteen students per class on average.
  • Teachers chosen for the passion they have for their subject and for their pedagogical gifts. Beyond their respective qualifications (CAPES, agrégations, doctorate…) and their experience, all have the will to apply an innovative and flexible pedagogy in order to accompany each student towards his personal success. They support, encourage, stimulate, and if need be take each student in hand again, so as to bring him to the utmost of his capacities.
  • Differentiated teaching: since we welcome boys only, our teachers adapt learning to their psychology and to their specific needs.
  • A timetable adapted to the child’s biological rhythm: academic lessons take place in the morning or in the early afternoon, when the mind is livelier. The end of the afternoon is reserved for music, sport and study.
  • Regular sport to allow greater effectiveness in lessons and study periods.

02 Tutoring

Accompany the student in his academic progress and his autonomy

5 essential elements of our pedagogy:

  • A pedagogy of motivation based on the taste and the joy of music: in order to be able to continue his passion, a student will be ready to surpass himself in his studies and to overcome the difficulties he may have in one subject or another.
  • Individualised tutoring in studies: each student is followed by a designated tutor, who regularly takes stock with him — either daily or weekly, according to the growth of his autonomy in work. He accompanies the student in the different aspects of his life at the Academy, in close collaboration with the parents and the other teachers and educators. He leads the student to set the objectives required by his ambition and helps him to reach them or to recast them.
  • The personalised timetable: in order to carry through the whole of his academic and musical studies, the student has a personalised timetable according to his artistic choices. The tutor and the educator responsible for the student’s group help the boy to keep to his timetable.
  • Very regular assessments : boys' academic and musical progress is assessed regularly, in every year group.
    • Oral and written tests.
    • Weekly in-class tests from 6e to Terminale.
    • Termly mock examinations (formal examinations: mock baccalauréat papers), written and oral.
  • The class council: at the Academy, the educational, academic and musical project is first of all the student’s. He therefore takes his project in hand and comes to take stock of it with the educational team once a term. The class council is thus a key moment. Whatever his age, the student is the driving force of his class council, prepares it with his tutor and his educator, and is present at it. It is a moment of truth that makes it possible to take stock of the past term and to set the objectives for the term to come.
  • Commendations and encouragements are awarded in each area to reward excellent behaviour and excellent work, both academic and musical (if need be, a warning would be given to rekindle the student’s ardour!). An Excellence Prize is awarded to the student who would receive commendations in all three areas of life at the Academy.

03 Openness

General culture and openness of mind

Our Masterclasses, whether musical or of general culture, have as their ambition to give the students an authentic humanist culture and an openness of mind, by taking up varied themes that can complement the curriculum of the French Ministry of Education.

They also contribute to knowledge of professions and to reflection on baccalauréat guidance.

We welcome speakers of quality who come to present their profession or their passion, or to take up with our students a particular theme in order to enrich their personal culture, as well as institutions of higher education which present their distinctive character to our students.

Since the founding of the Academy, we have taken up law, philosophy, economics, Greek, literature, the hydrodynamics of the submarine, fluid mechanics and the Magnus effect, the papacy and the Vatican…

We have also worked on the art of public speaking, self-knowledge…

We have welcomed business leaders, engineers who presented to us the professions of industry, and the director of studies of the Blomet classes préparatoires, who came to present the C.P.G.E. to us.

At our concerts and on our tours, there is always a cultural moment, and wherever we go, we take the time to discover the heritage.
